Compton Cowboys
In 2019, we were developing a new documentary series from that offered an unexpected view into the American experience through Search Trends. In each episode, we'd visit the particular town in which something interesting or unusual was trending, and reveal the story behind it, offering a deeper understanding of the people, places, and experiences that make up the rich and diverse tapestry of America. We were two stories in when Covid-19 came along and put an infinite pause on the series' production, but I am grateful that this piece still found its way out in the world after everything turned upside down.
In 2020, we saw that people were searching for “compton cowboys” more than ever before. We went to Compton, CA to better understand why and met Keiara Wade, who has never stopped chasing of her dream of becoming the first black female rider to compete in the national rodeo. It was an honor to tell her story.

Homecoming Mums
The state of Texas searches for “chrysanthemum” more than any other state. IYKYK, but if you don't, hold on to your socks. Our first short film in this series took us Klein, TX, where we discovered this unusual phenomenon isn't just a tradition, it's a rite of passage. This piece never made it out on the other side of the pandemic, but it lives on here, and in the hearts of every Texan.
